1. Indian Hot Springs Pool in Idaho Springs

As the closest hot springs near Denver, Indian Hot Springs pool in Idaho Springs is just a 40-minute drive from downtown. The large, indoor pool offers a translucent ceiling and is decorated with tropical plants, giving you a warm, jungle feel.

The pool itself is fed with naturally hot mineral water (90 to 100 degrees). There are also geothermal caves, outdoor jacuzzis, and indoor private baths. You can even spend the night with affordable accommodation.

Local Tip: Go for a scenic drive near Denver for a beautifully relaxing day!

2. Mount Princeton Hot Springs in Nathrop

Located right between Salida and Buena Vista, Mount Princeton Hot Springs is a classic Colorado establishment. Arguably the best hot springs near Denver, Mount Princeton offer a variety of pools right along the roadside. The best part about Mount Princeton Hot Springs is that you can make your own pools right in the river by stacking rocks.

Bring along a few adult beverages (no glass) or simply relax in one of the swimming pools, including slides for the kids! You can also spend the night right on the property.

3. Charlotte Hot Springs in Buena Vista, CO

This luxury hot springs resort near Denver offers a quiet retreat away from the bustling crowds of other hot springs near Denver. Relax in one of the small, private pools. Offering pet-friendly accommodation, these hot springs are for those who plan to stay overnight. Charlotte Hot Springs is an awesome retreat for couples.

With over 20 mineral pools and plenty of spa services this is an excellent hot spring, just beware of the sulfur smell.

5. Desert Reef Hot Springs in Florence

If you’re looking for a little solitude, the tranquil Desert Reef Hot Springs is the place to be. These down-to-basics hot springs offer little in the way in amenities, with killer views. Keep in mind that groups of men are not allowed unless they are accompanied by their partners (male or female) or are members.

“West slope best slope” as the locals say. There is an array of amazing hot springs in Colorado that you’ve got to check out if you’re along the Western Slope. Areas on this list include the San Juan Mountains, Grand Junction, Pagosa Springs and more.

6. The Springs Resort and Spa in Pagosa Springs

Located right along the river, The Springs Resort offers the deepest hot springs in the US. A wide variety of pools, some suitable for children and some adult-only options, with stunning mountain backdrops, make this an excellent spot to enjoy a good soak. Accommodations are also available.

7. Orvis Hot Springs in Ridgeway, Colorado

If you’re looking for a low-key getaway, head to the Ridgeway, Colorado. Located close to Ouray and Telluride (two jaw-dropping Colorado mountain towns), these incredible clothing-optional hot springs in Colorado feature seven distinct pools, including an indoor swimming option, all of which are clothing optional (except the indoor pool). This is the best Colorado hot springs for couples looking to unwind and relax.

8. Ouray Hot Springs in Ouray, Colorado

One of the few sulfur-free mineral pools in Colorado, Ouray Hot Springs is well worth a visit. Nestled amongst 13,000-foot peaks in the town of Ouray, Colorado the scenery beneath these dipping pools is unbeatable. More like a water park and pool, this kid-friendly hot springs in Colorado is perfect for the whole family.

Hours: June, July, and August: 10 am to 10 pm. September through May: 12 pm to 9 pm Monday through Friday and 11 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Located in various spots within the Rocky Mountains, these are some of the absolute best hot springs in Colorado. Perfect for a trip unto themselves, or as something to do if you’re in the area, these Colorado hot springs are top-notch.

9. Strawberry Park Hot Springs in Steamboat Springs

This is my absolute favorite hot springs in Colorado and this is also why you need to visit Steamboat Springs in the winter. Strawberry Park is a bit of a legend in Steamboat Springs and it’s easy to see why. The natural setting and design of the springs make it an oasis in the mountains. This place has a funky vibe, and although it’s kid-friendly during the day, clothing is optional and there are no lights after dark.

Tip: You’ll need snow tires with 4WD or chains between Nov 1 and May 1st.

Hours: 10 am to 10:30 pm Sunday through Thursday. Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 12 am. Must be in the park by 9:30 PM Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 pm Friday and Saturday

10. Penny Hot Springs in Carbondale

Another favorite hot springs among locals, the Penny Hot Springs in Carbondale are about as bare-bones as it gets. Located 3.2 miles north of the main entrance to Redstone on HWY 133, these all-natural hot springs are a pack-it-in-pack-it-out only. There are no amenities (including bathrooms) so please keep it clean for the next visitor. Spring runoff often drowns the hot springs, so be sure to only visit during summer, fall, or winter.

11. Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs

As one of the top things to do in Glenwood Springs, you’ve got to put Iron Mountain hot springs on your list. Skip the pool right off the highway and head to Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs instead. Perfect after hiking to Hanging Lake (one of the best lake hikes in Colorado), this 16-pool hot springs is the perfect place to relax. Stunning views of nearby mountains set the backdrop for this lovely Colorado hot spring.

Hours: 9 am to 10 pm
Price: $20 for weekdays and $25 on weekends during non-peak pricing (Sept 3 to May 21). Check the Iron Mountain Hot Springs Website for price changes.

Things to Know Before Visiting the Hot Springs

Every hot springs in Colorado has a different set of rules and regulations. Some pools are suitable for kids, but most hot springs have adult-only pools. Always respect the rules and regulations where you are going. Here are a few additional tips for visiting hot springs in Colorado:

• These places are exceptionally crowded on the weekend, especially the hot springs near Denver. Plan accordingly
• No hot springs allow pets. Please keep your dog at home.
• If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, check with your doc before going for a dip.
• Most jewelry will tarnish in hot springs, especially silver, remove it.
• Shower before entering pools.
• Don’t ever bring glass to a hot spring.

When is the Best Time to Visit Hot Springs in Colorado?

My favorite part about visiting Colorado hot springs is that any time of year is suitable for a dip. After a long day hiking in the summer, or just to shake off some cabin fever in the winter, hot springs in Colorado are always a delightful treat!

If you plan on visiting natural pools, where you can soak directly in a river, avoid spring and early summer since the snowmelt will likely cover the pools.

Overall, travel is easy in Colorado, but you’ll want to keep a few key Colorado travel tips in mind.

• Mountain traffic is a real thing, especially on weekends. Expect traffic delays year-round and plan accordingly.
• Follow marijuana use regulations. It’s illegal to smoke in public, no matter where you are.
